How to share passwords with LastPass

Okikiola Babalola | Monday, 13 March 2023

As you probably can relate, there is nothing worse than creating several passwords for several accounts and losing track of which is unique to an account. As technology advances, every new website or account we sign up for is another password to remember.

It would have been less strenuous if passwords were easily created with just words, but for security purposes, these sites demand the need for passwords consisting of characters, symbols, and figures which are tricky to remember.

Now, even beyond just remembering and keeping your passwords safe, you sometimes need to share these passwords with people, especially at work. Say you need to send an email via MG’s Gmail account, how does he make sure this password is shared easily and kept safe?

The hassles of password recovery and sharing can be reduced by installing a password manager. LastPass, a highly recommended password manager, saves you trouble, makes it easier for you to manage passwords, and share those passwords with others in a more secure way.

Here are the simple steps to sharing:

Log in to your LastPass account.

To share passwords with LastPass, you must have a LastPass account. If you don't already have an account, you can sign up for one on the LastPass website https://www.lastpass.com/. Once you've created an account, log in to your LastPass account using your email address and master password.

Navigate to the site or app for which you want to share a password.

In your LastPass vault, find the website or app for which you want to share a password. Click on the site or app to open its details page.

Hover on the site you want to share and click the 🔧 icon

This shows you a pop-up containing the site details. Here you click the 👥 icon at the bottom left side of the popup.

Enter the email address of the person you want to share the password with.

In the "Recipient Email Addresses" field, enter the email address of the person you want to share the password with. If the person already has a LastPass account, you can enter their LastPass email address. If they don't have a LastPass account, you can enter their regular email address.

Choose the level of access you want to give the person.

In the Access field, select the level of access you want to give the person. It’s either you want the recipient to be able to view the password or not.

Click on the "Share button" button

After you've entered the email address of the person you want to share the password with and selected the level of access you want to give them, click on the "Share" button. The person will then be able to access the shared password according to the access level you've given them.

If the person you're sharing the password with doesn't have a LastPass account, they will receive an email invitation to create one.

Once they've created their account, they will be able to access the shared password.

If you need to revoke the sharing settings for a password, go back to the Sharing Center page, find the password you want to revoke, click on it to open its details page, and then click on the "Revoke" button. This will remove the sharing settings for the password and revoke the access of any users who were previously given access to it.
